About Us
The Beaufort County Choral Society was founded in 1979 in Washington, NC. For more than four decades, the chorus has promoted the appreciation and enjoyment of choral music in Beaufort County. The chorus is a non-profit, tax-deductible 501(c)(3) organization which is funded in part by the Beaufort County Arts Council, generous sponsors, dues from its members, concert donations, and various fundraising activities.
The Chorus performs its freewill concerts in December and May at the Historic Turnage Theatre in downtown Washington, North Carolina and in surrounding venues. In recent years, the members have progressed from singing light repertoires to more complex pieces, including selections of multicultural works in a number of languages. Its repertoire includes both secular and spiritual selections, as well as songs from Broadway and Cinema.
Membership
The only prerequisites for membership in BCCS are a tuneful voice, a love of music, a commitment to weekly rehearsals and a spirit of camaraderie. Most chorus members live in Beaufort and Pitt Counties, but some travel further distances to participate. Our chorus welcomes all dedicated singers. Our volunteer singers range in age from young adult through senior citizens.
Dues are $50 per semester. Scholarships are available upon request. The dues are waived for high school students, but a $20 deposit is required on music which is returned following the concert.
Rehearsals
The chorus rehearses on Monday evenings 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 211 W. 2nd Street, Washington, NC.
